TOP 10 FAQ's

1. Do I need experience to start?

No. The majority of our members started as complete beginners. We have beginner classes and a no-ego environment, so you’ll be looked after from day one.

2. What should I wear and bring?

Wear a rashguard (or tight t-shirt) and shorts or leggings. Bring a mouthguard if you have one. All gear can be purchased on site if needed.

3. How much does it cost?

Full membership is $30 per week (unlimited classes). Drop-ins are $20 per session.

4. Do I need to book or can I just turn up?

Please call or message us before your first class on 021 235 0965. This helps us manage numbers on the mats and makes sure you’re prepared.

5. Is it suitable for women?

Yes. We run a dedicated women’s class and women are welcome in all sessions. The environment is respectful and supportive.

6. What age can I start?

Our classes are for 14 years and older.

7. I’m not very fit — will I be able to keep up?

Yes. You’ll train at your own pace. Fitness improves quickly once you start, and no one expects you to be at full intensity in your first few classes.

8. Is Jiu-Jitsu safe?

Injury risk is low when training properly. We emphasise control, technique, and looking after training partners. Beginners are eased in carefully.

9. What’s the difference between Beginner and Adults classes?

Beginner classes focus on fundamentals and building a strong base. Adults classes include more live training (rolling) and more complicated techniques.

10. Can I sign up and just do the HIIT Workouts?

Yes, although there are some grappling and striking incorporated into the classes. Become a member and come to whatever classes you want.

Jiujitsu & Paeroa

Welcome to JiuJitsu & Paeroa – My name is Josh. I'm a husband, father, and owner of a local tiling business who got addicted to doing Jiu-Jitsu years ago.

When my family moved to Paeroa two years ago, I faced a choice: give up rolling, drive long distances or train with the stink bums at 'Coromandel BJJ' - no thanks haha!

Instead, I decided to build something right here in my garage here in Paeroa.

Whether you're a complete beginner looking to build confidence and fitness, or a seasoned grappler wanting consistent mats close to home, you'll find a supportive crew ready to help you along the way.

No egos, no long commutes – just good Jiu-Jitsu, good people, and the chance to keep improving every day. Come roll with us and learn how to squeeze the lemons in your life.

I'll see you on the mats!
